Clearer Vision Awaits

Laser eye surgery for refractive errors is performed on Canadians each year. It is used to correct refractive errors from myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia, and astigmatism.

Laser eye surgery won’t work for everyone’s prescription, but our team can determine your candidacy by conducting a comprehensive eye exam and laser eye surgery consultation. Our optometrists can evaluate your overall visual health and establish what level of correction is needed.

We’d love to help you achieve your dream of a glasses-less future. Book a laser eye surgery consultation with us today!

Which Procedure Works for Me?

The 2 most common laser eye surgery procedures in Canada are LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) and PRK (photorefractive keratectomy).

Depending on your prescription, eye anatomy, and eye health, you may find LASIK or PRK to be a better option.

Our team will work with you to assess your eyes and advise you on which procedure will work for you. We’ll also provide you with a referral to a trusted ophthalmologist in the area.

What to Expect from Laser Eye Surgery

If you’re considering laser eye surgery, it can help to understand what it entails. LASIK and PRK follow similar procedures, which involve creating a very thin flap on the surface of the cornea, which is the clear part of the eye in front of the iris, and using a laser to remove some corneal tissue beneath to correct your vision.

In LASIK, your ophthalmologist creates a very thin flap in the cornea, gently lifts it, and then uses the laser to reshape the tissue beneath. The flap is then replaced, which usually leads to faster recovery.

In PRK, instead of creating a flap, the eye’s outer epithelial layer is removed with a laser, brush, blade, or alcohol solution. The cornea is then reshaped with the laser, and a bandage contact lens is placed to protect the eye while the epithelium grows back. Recovery takes longer, but PRK avoids potential flap-related complications.

Post-Surgery Follow-Ups

Immediately after your procedure, you’ll see your ophthalmologist for a follow-up appointment to check on your healing.

You’ll also visit one of our optometrists for a series of follow-up appointments. We want to check in on your recovery, address any side effects, and make sure your eyes are healing properly long-term.
